Executive Recruitment Buoyant at Philippines Ports and Shipping 2017 Exhibition and Conference in Manila

The recruitment of key executives was high on the agendas of a number of participants at the Philippines Ports and Shipping 2017 in Manila on Feb. 23-24. The important event is the largest biennial container ports and terminal operations exhibition and conference in the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

Executive recruitment consultant Jubie Bartolay, the assistant head of Monroe Consulting Group Philippine’s specialized Industrial Division, said shipping was a vital part of the BIMP-EAGA framework given the sea connections between the majority of cities in Southeast Asia and the wider Asia region.

“To maintain and enhance the region’s competitiveness, BIMP-EAGA is committed to encouraging the upgrade of seaports, foster improved shipping, and implement bilateral and multilateral agreements to aid cross-border activities,” Jubie said.

She said the depth of this resolve was on stark display at the Philippines Ports and Shipping 2017, which attracted more than 400 senior executives from world leading regional container shippers, cargo owners, shipping lines, freight forwarders, logistics companies, port companies, importers and exporters, terminal operating companies, and container terminal equipment suppliers, to name but a few.

In addition, the 9th edition of the event featured more than 50 exhibitors and 25 speakers analyzing the latest global and regional transport and logistics issues confronting shipping lines and cargo owners, she added.

“What was most interesting to myself as an executive recruitment consultant, was the need for executive search or headhunting services in a number of key areas in the sector,” Jubie said. “I met with a number of key decision-makers in the industry who say they often find it difficult to source and recruit the top-level executive talent their companies need to ensure they remain competitive, both regionally and globally.”
