Monroe Vietnam Hosts Expert Roundtable on Labour Law Changes

The next wave of labour and employment regulations was the focus of discussions during a high-level, human resources (HR)-focused gathering organised by executive recruitment company Monroe Consulting Group Vietnam.

Ngan Huynh, managing director of the Ho Chi Minh City-based recruitment company, said Monroe was delighted to bring together many of Vietnam’s leading C-level human resources professionals for the Expert Roundtable to discuss the implications of the “trending topic.”

“It is obvious that the Vietnam Labour Code has been, and is still going through, frequent rough changes, causing so many problems in employment practices,” Ngan said. “In witnessing the engaging discussion, Monroe Vietnam was extremely glad that we could provide some support to the HR community for upcoming challenges and help clarify some of the confusion surrounding internal corporate issues.”

The featured speaker was Khuat Van Trung, an associate at law firm Baker McKenzie and a specialist in labour practises, dispute resolution and foreign investment, including mergers and acquisitions.

The presentation covered a number of topics, including proposed amendments to the four decrees governing the Labour Code 2012, and social insurance for expatriate executives.

Mr Trung said that enterprises, employees, trade unions, business associations and other organizations had “voiced their concerns” regarding the difficulties complying with the Labour Code.

“To address the aforementioned concerns and meet the new requirements in the context of Vietnam’s deeper international integration, the Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs has initiated the Labour Code revision project,” he said.

“Along with this project, a number of guiding documents for the implementation of the current Labour Code have been revised or are in a process of amendment and supplementation. This next wave of labour and employment regulations strives to provide a progressive legal framework, which businesses, specifically HR professionals, should be fully aware of.”

Senior executive recruitment consultant Neil Williams, who heads up Monroe Vietnam’s specialised Professional Services Division, said the regular Expert Roundtable events were going from strength to strength.

“This fifth Expert Roundtable was also a great chance for Monroe Vietnam to get updated on labour law changes in order to keep providing top-quality services to our clients,” Mr Williams said.

“In addition, our consultants had a great time talking to these HR experts during the networking event, which was a really great opportunity to further enhance our customer insight process.”
