Monroe Consulting Group, an Executive Recruitment firm, is partnering with an organisation in the Information Technology industry to hire an Embedded Software Engineer (Senior). This opportunity is based in Malaysia.
Position Overview
This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining embedded graphical user interfaces for microcontroller-based devices and instrumentation products. This role plays a key part in establishing embedded UI development capabilities, supporting product innovation, and delivering reliable, user-friendly interfaces for current and future product lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop embedded GUIs using LVGL for a family of instrumentation products.
- Redesign existing product interfaces and build new ones for upcoming product lines.
- Own display and touch-controller integration, from driver bring-up to finished UI.
- Support ongoing maintenance and updates once interfaces are deployed.
- Help establish reusable embedded UI practices as this becomes a standing capability within the organisation.
- Work closely with the mechanical/hardware team and external connectivity/PCB partners.
Key Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience as an Embedded Software Engineer with a strong background in graphical user interface development for microcontroller-based devices.
- Experience designing interfaces for instrumentation, measurement, or industrial handheld devices is preferred.
- Exposure to medical device or regulated-industry software practices is advantageous.
Technical / Functional Expertise
- Strong proficiency in C programming.
- Experience with GUI for microcontroller development.
- Experience in microcontroller development, including STM32, ESP32, NXP, Renesas, Nordic, or similar platforms.
- Experience with FreeRTOS or another RTOS.
- Knowledge of SPI, I2C, and UART communication protocols.
- Experience with display drivers, including RGB, MIPI DSI, SPI TFT, and ePaper.
- Experience with touch controllers such as GT911, FT6336, XPT2046, or similar.
- Strong understanding of memory optimisation and embedded debugging.
- Experience integrating display and touch-controller solutions from driver development through to completed user interfaces.
- Experience working with external connectivity and PCB partners is advantageous.
Soft Skills & Leadership Competencies
- Self-starter with the ability to work effectively with limited local support during the early phase of team development.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work closely with hardware, mechanical, and external partner teams.
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Mandarin is an advantage for supplier engagement.
- Ability to contribute to the establishment of best practices and reusable embedded UI development standards.
