The Technical Director serves as a principal technical authority and strategic practice leader within the firm's global infrastructure design division. Responsible for driving technical excellence, complex project governance, major client advisory, and multidisciplinary delivery across large-scale capital projects, this role combines top-tier engineering leadership with commercial acumen and talent development.
Core Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design Governance
- Serve as the Lead Technical Authority on high-value, multi-disciplinary infrastructure tenders and mega-project execution.
- Establish and enforce design quality management plans, assurance frameworks, and technical review protocols across all delivery phases.
- Oversee technical risk management, constructability, value engineering, and complex design integration across global design centers and local teams.
Business Development & Commercial Strategy
- Partner with Business Unit Leaders and Pursuit Teams to win major framework agreements, PPP/P3 concessions, and design-build engagements.
- Champion technical positioning, methodology development, fee estimating, and executive-level client presentations.
Digital Innovation & Sustainability
- Champion the implementation of digital engineering workflows (BIM Level 2/3, Digital Twins, AI-assisted design automation, and parametric modeling).
- Embed decarbonization, climate resilience, net-zero infrastructure frameworks, and sustainable material strategies into project delivery.
Capability Building & Mentorship
- Mentor and develop senior engineers, Associate Directors, and technical specialists to foster high-performing engineering teams.
- Lead knowledge-sharing networks and practice groups across international offices to advance technical capabilities.

Required Qualifications & Competencies
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Professional Status: Chartered Engineer / Professional Engineer status (CEng, PE, CPEng, or equivalent) with recognized bodies (e.g., ICE, IStructE, ASCE, Engineers Australia).
- Experience: 15+ years of progressive engineering experience in major infrastructure design, including at least 5+ years in a senior technical leadership capacity within a top-tier consultancy.
- Project Track Record: Proven experience as Lead Designer or Technical Director on mega-projects (USD $100M+ capital value) across Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build (D&B), and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) delivery models.
- Stakeholder Management: Outstanding client-facing skills with a track record of advising government bodies, transport authorities, private developers, and major contractors.
