Executive recruitment company Monroe Consulting Group’s Industrial Division is recruiting on behalf of a global leader within the manufacturing industry.

The successful candidate is required to provide mineralogical information necessary for the evaluation of ore deposits, plant feed stone, plant processes, finished products, the development of new products, etc. The candidate will also manage relevant materials (shipping and receiving, storage), and maintain and calibrate appropriate laboratory equipment, in collaboration with the R&D team in Singapore.

Job responsibilities: 

  • Carry out hands-on analyses of minerals and finished products
  • Support internal and external stakeholders relating to minerals and/or finished products through chemical and/or physical analysis, such as microscopy, SEM/EDX, XRD, XRF etc. and present conclusions and recommendations in an easy to understand written report and, if necessary, verbally
  • Support internal stakeholders by helping analyse the results of their experiments, or resolving relevant plant problems
  • Occasionally perform mineralogy studies of deposits either through site visits or through analyses of drill cores
  • Liaise with colleagues from OTCO and OTCC (or other external contract laboratories, universities, etc.), to get the necessary information, should it not be available within OTCS
  • Develop new methods for analysing ores and finished products and actively propose improvements (for the laboratory or for specific projects) whenever possible
  • Keep laboratory equipment ready for use through regular maintenance and cleaning
  • Ensure the integrity and appropriateness of laboratory results and recommendations, prior to releasing any reports
  • Keep up-to-date with the science and with regulatory changes and occasionally attend internal or external meetings concerning such issues
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with equipment suppliers
  • Maintain high safety, housekeeping and workplace standards at all times

Job requirements:

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate science or engineering course with 5-10 years relevant experience in mineralogy or a PhD with 0-5 years’ experience
  • Experience with transmitted and reflected light microscopy, phase contrast and dispersion staining techniques, X-ray diffraction, qualitative and quantitative methods for mixed mineral samples
  • Experience with SEM/EDXS would be a plus
  • Hands-on experience in setting up, maintaining and running equipment in a typical analytical laboratory
  • Good problem-solving, manual and analytical skills, and a team player
  • Good communication (verbal and written) skills in English and preferably at least 1 additional Asian language
