Executive recruitment company Monroe Consulting Group’s Industrial Division is recruiting on behalf of a global leader within the development and manufacturing of speciality chemicals. Our esteemed client of mine is looking for an experienced individual for the job of Technical Development Manager.

This Technical Development Manager will lead and manage all technical development activities, quality control, zero harm targets, process safety and continuous improvement activities for the site. The winning candidate will be reporting to the Country Director.

Job responsibilities:

  • Ensure all duties are to be carried out at all times in compliance with all Company Corporate EHS, product stewardship, SOX and business conduct policies and guidelines.
  • As a member of Leadership Team, contribute to the development and implementation of the Manufacturing Strategy, Improvement Plan and Capital Expenditure plans.
  • Fully contribute to Site Improvement Program, leading technical aspects and demonstrate personal commitment to it.
  • To contribute the overall strategy of the area through active involvement in the SLT, assisting and advising in the setting of policy and its application across areas.
  • To lead and deliver developments in process technologies across the site in order to improve the reliability of these technologies on existing and future installations.
  • To lead, manage and motivate the Technical & development team and QC & Lab team to deliver objectives in a timely and productive manner.
  • To provide technical oversight across site assets to ensure the operations and improvement activity is consistent with the best engineering practices.
  • Represent site in technical and resource planning decisions involving the group technical network.
  • To coach and mentor technical engineer to ensure their professional development is managed and supported.
  • To establish product quality improvement priorities with technical and marketing team and ensure that the improvement are included in the site improvement plans.
  • To manage and successfully develop and deliver the agreed site capital portfolio of projects from conception through to full scale implementation and handover in accordance with all applicants standards, legislative requirements and company expectations.
  • Ensure that opportunities and threats influenced by external factors and with significant impact on site operation are identified and appropriate strategies prepared in response.

Job requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years in a managerial role, plant processing environment, knowledge in Hazard and Operability Studies or similar methodology is essential Broad knowledge of Process Safety management systems, methods and good practice within the Chemical Industry and elsewhere.
  • Bachelor or higher degree in Chemical Engineering or any relevant or equivalent courses.
  • Understands company EHS and Engineering Policies, Standards and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of chemical manufacturing process via the sulphate route.
  • He/she must have technical credentials and management authority to challenge and establish thinking and emerging proposals.
  • Understands business model, marketing and sales strategy.
  • Benchmarking with other sites and Group practices and operations.
  • Local standards, work systems and procedures, including EHS, HR, Purchasing and QA.
  • Leadership, motivation and influencing processes.
  • Good knowledge on Project Management.
  • MS office functionalities, good presentation and communication skill. Project Management will be added advantage.
