A presentation on young professionals in the workforce by Monroe Consulting Group Chile Managing Director Monica Viladot was among the most popular workshops on offer during the Human Resources World Congress in Santiago from October 15 to October 17. The annual event, which attracted 1,800 national and foreign directors, executives and professionals from around the world, was organised by the World Federation of People Management Associations (WFPRA), in partnership with Circulo Ejecutivo de RRHH, CERH Chile and La Araucana.

The congress, themed “La Persona” (“People”) to focus on humans not as simple “resources” but as people, featured 16 plenary lectures led by international thought-leaders, as well as 10 workshops led by experienced professionals, including Monroe’s Monica Viladot.

Ms Viladot, who has overseen the successful start-up executive recruitment company Monroe’s latest branch in Chile, said her presentation on Generation Y’s impact on the workforce was oversubscribed, with 150 people forced to jostle for just 100 seats. The response to the workshop was also overwhelmingly positive, generated interest by the news media and earned a large thank you from the organisers, she said.

“The presentation was about young professionals from Generation Y in the workplace, and the key point was to understand that this generation is starting to play a very important role in the marketplace, not only because they will represent about 75 percent of the global workforce by 2025, but also because they are the future clients of these companies,” Ms Viladot said. “Understanding their mind-sets, skills and abilities will be key to operating a successful company in the future.”

“Both young professionals (millennials) and HR Directors had the opportunity to gather in the same room, and after the presentation shared their own experiences in the workplace,” she said. “One of our goals was to demonstrate that young talent, although difficult to manage at times, is not a threat but the opposite – an opportunity for innovation, change and ensuring ongoing success in the future.”

Ms Viladot said another key aspect of Monroe’s presence at the Congress was a stand that allowed Monroe recruitment consultants the opportunity to outline their expertise in sourcing the very best executive candidates for key management roles in key companies operating in Chile. Monroe is a leading provider of senior human resources capital that specialises in servicing clients' needs in the banking and finance, technology, industrial and consumer goods sectors in emerging markets around the world, particularly Southeast Asia, she added.

Monroe was named ‘Best Small Recruitment Business’ at the prestigious international Global Recruiter Industry Awards 2014 ceremony at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on October 3, and runner-up in the Best Overseas Operation. The company, with operations in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines was well as in Chile and Mexico, was named Best Small Recruitment Business and Best Overseas Operation in 2013.
