Now is a particularly good time to be an information technology (IT) professional in the E-commerce and financial technology (fintech) industries in the Philippines if you can speak two or more languages, leading executive recruitment Monroe Consulting Group Philippines says.
Jelly Ruth Reyes, head of Monroe Philippines’ Technology Division, said the rapidly expanding and evolving E-commerce and fintech landscape meant that IT professionals in Southeast Asia constantly needed to evolve their skillsets and adapt to change.
“There has been an influx of multinational E-commerce and fintech companies into the Philippines, with many eying other key markets in Southeast Asia and the wider Asian region,” Jelly said. “Due to global operations of these businesses, we have seen a major increase in the demand for bilingual IT professionals. Sought after languages include Chinese, Malay, Indonesian, Thai and Myanmarese, as well as Western languages like French and Spanish, to name a few.”
Jelly said companies were not only willing to pay top dollar for these professionals, but were being generous in the additional benefits packages being offered, including accommodation and other allowances, health insurance and transport, including flights.
She said the scarcity of desirable, multi-lingual job candidates in some areas was causing human resources (HR) problems for multinational and national tech-based companies in the Philippines.
“There is a shortage, even a scarcity, of professionals with the desired language skills that is causing recruitment problems,” she said. “Monroe has a distinct advantage over other recruitment companies in the Philippines as we have well-established operations in emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific, including China, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Chile and Mexico. And the recruitment of IT professionals is one of our strengths.”
Jelly was talking on the side-lines of the Cards & Payments Philippines 2016 convention at the SMX Convention Centre in Manila in September.
