Job Summary
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a key member of the hospital Executive team, reporting directly to the President and CEO, and is accountable for providing technology vision and leadership in the development and implementation of the affiliate-wide information technology (IT) program. He/She will direct, plan, organize and control all activities of the IT division and to ensure the effective, efficient and secure operation of all automated data processing systems of the hospital. The CIO will lead the health care network in planning and implementing enterprise information systems to support both the hospital, offsite and centralized clinical and business operations and achieve more effective and cost beneficial enterprise-wide IT operations. The CIO will drive innovation forward, looking toward the future of patient-led healthcare. The CIO implements the information security and data privacy policies of the organization.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership for IT strategy and planning, budgeting, data integrity, and information security.
- Provides strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation, and coordination of the information and technology systems for the health care network.
- Defines, integrates, and upgrades a comprehensive information system architecture.
- Facilitates communication between staff, management, vendors, and other technology resources within the organization.
- Oversees the back office computer operations of the affiliate management information system, including local area networks and wide-area networks.
- Responsible for the management of multiple information and communications systems and projects, including voice, data, imaging, and office automation.
- Designs, implements, and evaluates the systems that support end users in the productive use of computer hardware and software.
- Develops and implements user-training programs.
- Oversees and evaluates system security and back up procedures.
- Supports in designing, planning, implementing and evaluating all patient safety initiatives of the hospital.
- Works within inter-professional teams to optimize patient safety and quality care, practices as it applies to the design and implementation of computerized information gathering and processing systems (collectively called, the hospital information system) of the organization. Promotes patient safety through the effective inclusion and communication of patient and care-related alerts in the hospital information system.
- Defines enterprise information architecture by analyzing information requirements; determining systems architecture, components, and technologies; studying business operations and user-interface requirements; directing development of physical database.
- Confirms architecture capability and flexibility by developing analytical models; completing validation tests.
- Improves information usefulness by tracking emerging technologies; evaluating their applicability to business goals and operational requirements.
- Participates in internal work groups, committees as appropriate
- Performs other responsibilities as requested by the President and CEO
Key Job Qualification:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Industrial or Management Engineering, or any related field; master's degree or units highly desirable.
- At least ten years of related professional-level and management experience
- At least 5 years' experience in planning, implementing and supporting systems in a complex health care environment.
- Highly skilled in translating technical language to lay audiences
- Worked extensively in linking and applying complex technologies to business strategies
- An inclusive leadership style that is strong in teamwork; accomplished in the successful development of high performance, customer-centric teams; a history of leading teams that deliver customer service excellence.
- Ability to thrive in a diverse and complex organizational culture; cultural transformation experience preferred.
- Superior critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Hands-on experience in business process improvement aimed at increasing efficiency of hospital services
