Executive recruitment company Monroe Consulting Group Indonesia is recruiting on behalf of a leading Indonesian provider of shipping and transportation solutions for bulk materials. As expansion continues, our client is seeking a professional with at least 20 years' experience in shipping for the job of Vice President Ship Management. The job is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Key job responsibilities include:

  • Report directly to CEO
  • Responsible for overseeing the full spectrum of our ship management activities, including technical management, safety and compliance, maintenance, dry docking, budget control, and crewing
  • Oversee the implementation of operational safety protocols and engineering standards to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the fleet.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments to conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and audits.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures to uphold the condition and seaworthiness of the fleet.
  • Manage crewing activities, including recruitment, training, and deployment of qualified personnel onboard.
  • Provide comprehensive ship management services to meet the needs and expectations of clients, ensuring compliance with contractual agreements and industry regulations.
  • Liaise with clients to understand their requirements and address any concerns or issues in a timely manner
  • Review, negotiate, and amend contracts related to ship management activities, including charter agreements, service contracts, and crewing arrangements.
  • Ensure that contractual terms and conditions are clearly defined, understood, and adhered to by all parties involved
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a quality management system manual to uphold standards of excellence in ship management operations.
  • Establish and enforce safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and environmental protection measures in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain oversight of the crewing division, ensuring efficient crew planning, scheduling, and rotation to meet operational requirements.
  • Address crewing-related issues, including certifications, licensing, payroll, and performance evaluations, in collaboration with HR.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience in ship management or as a seafarer 10 years of managerial experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of international maritime regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities.
  • Experience in contract negotiation, administration, and management.
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and safety management systems (e.g., ISM Code).
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for ship management and technical operations.
  • Certification or licensing as required by relevant maritime authorities or professional organizations.
