Head of Internal Audit (Healthcare)


Job Responsibilities:

  • Establish and Execute Audit Plan: Develop and implement a risk-based internal audit plan from the ground up, encompassing all operational, financial, and compliance aspects of the hospital.
  • Comprehensive System Evaluation: Critically assess the design and effectiveness of existing internal controls, risk management processes, and governance structures as if starting with no prior system. Identify weaknesses and areas for improvement.
  • Team Leadership and Evaluation: Lead, manage, and evaluate the performance of the internal audit team. Identify skill gaps and implement training or restructuring as needed to optimize team effectiveness.
  • Conduct Audits: Plan, execute, and report on internal audits in accordance with professional standards, including documenting findings, developing recommendations, and tracking remediation efforts.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant local healthcare regulations, laws, and internal policies.
  • Reporting to Leadership: Communicate audit findings, recommendations, and the status of corrective actions to senior management and the audit committee.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of best practices in internal auditing and the healthcare industry to continuously improve the audit function.
  • Fraud Detection: Develop and implement procedures for the detection and prevention of fraud and irregularities.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Professional certification such 1 as CPA, CIA, or CISA is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in internal auditing, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Significant experience in evaluating and building internal audit systems from inception.
  • Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies, internal control frameworks, and auditing techniques.
  • Experience within the healthcare industry is a significant advantage.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of integrity and objectivity.
