Environmental & Social Manager (Renewable Energy)
Executive recruitment company Monroe Consulting Group Indonesia is recruiting on behalf of a Multinational Renewable Energy Company for an Environmental & Social Manager role. As the company is continuously developing, our client is seeking a professional with a biodiversity and environmental background with previous experience in handling hydropower plant projects.
The responsibilities will include:


  • Ensure compliance to the organizations E&S Management System

  • Support and communicate with the Solar and Hydro development teams, in order to identify potential E&S roadblocks early in the development process, and where possible be creative in terms of proposing alternatives to solve or mitigate perceived risks.

  • Carry out due diligence/evaluation of prospective investments from the point of view of E&S issues including conducting risk assessment, categorizing investments according to agreed methodology;

  • Develop scope of work, engage and manage the workstream of consultants that will carry out assessments such as ESIA's, RAP, Biodiversity Assessment, AMDAL, UKL/UPL etc;

  • Manage investments/ projects compliance with the relevant environmental authorizations and permits;

  • Manage community expectations and collaboration through a Community Stakeholder Engagement Plan;

  • Manage ongoing engagement on the ground with all relevant stakeholders;

  • Represent the organization in meetings with internal colleagues and external parties such as local resource management authorities and community heads and ensure open communication and expectations throughout a project development;

  • Manage all E&S workstreams within the overall Project timeline and risk framework, in close coordination of the other functions involved in the development and construction of the Project;

  • Support financing processes such as debt raising in respect to lenders' (or their advisers) E&S requirements in relation to projects;

  • Ensuring compliance with organizations agreements in respect of E&S issues pertaining to investments/projects;

  • Review construction contracts for relevant E&S and Health & Safety clauses and responsibilities;
  • Ensure all Contractors environmental and safety documents are reviewed and ensure they are at a national and international acceptable standard;


  • Carry out important staff training and ensure all members of the workforce (including contractor workforce) recognize and understand their own contributions to improved environmental performance;

  • Ensures that audits and record-keeping are performed at required frequencies and that environmental monitoring and pollution prevention and control parameters are in accordance with permits, plans, government regulations, or company requirements;

  • Ensure timely communication with contractors, third-party consultants and all stakeholders including project lenders, governmental agencies and local communities relating to ESH&S and permit implementation during the developmental stage and construction stage of a project.

  • Develop policies, programs and associated communication documentation;

  • Establish an Environmental and Social Management System and Human Resources Policy in line with the International Labour Organization (ILO) core labor standards for project/investments, reviewing on at least an annual basis;

  • Assist as requested with any wider E&S initiatives of the organization.



Job Requirements :


  • At least 7 years working in power generation as an E&S Manager with a preference for Renewable Energy experience. Experience in the Hydro sector is a major advantage.

  • Experience in implementing the Equator Principles and the environmental, social, health and safety standards of international finance institutions such as the World Bank, International Finance Corporation Performance Standards, African Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development etc. on major projects, and an understanding of such documents is preferable.

  • Strong social assessment experience is an advantage.

  • Has a good understanding of Indonesia's Environmental, Social and Labour legislative and permits

  • Must have excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and electronic communication skills in English.

  • Proactive, adaptable and have a strong hands-on attitude. The person must demonstrate the ability to be creative and use ingenuity to solve issues and propose alternatives/ mitigation measures where required.

  • Must have strong planning and organizational skills as well as the ability to lead and promote teamwork

  • Experience in some capacity of the advertised role is highly recommended, particularly in relation to managing such issues.
