Executive Recruitment Firm Monroe Consulting is currently recruiting on behalf of an established Bakery in Johor owned by a public-listed company for the Head of Factory Operation position. As the Head of Factory Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end operations of the factory, including production, logistics, finished goods, engineering, quality control, R&D, and infrastructure. This role ensures high efficiency, food safety compliance, product innovation, and operational excellence. Reporting to the Head of Business Unit, the incumbent leads a cross-functional team to deliver on production targets, cost control, and business growth.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Production Management
    1. Lead and oversee all daily food production activities to ensure product availability and quality.
    2. Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and food production standards.
    3. Monitor production output, quality metrics, and ensure alignment with forecasted demand.
    4. Coordinate new product launches and festive campaigns with R&D and marketing teams.
    5. Drive lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement initiatives on the shop floor.
  2. Quality Control & R&D
    1. Ensure product consistency, taste, and food safety through robust quality assurance systems.
    2. Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing tools.
    3. Oversee product trials, menu development, and enhancement of existing product lines.
  3. Engineering & Maintenance
    1. Oversee factory engineering operations, including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment (e.g. ovens, mixers, packaging machines).
    2. Ensure production machinery is safe, compliant, and operating at optimal efficiency.
    3. Collaborate with engineering to implement upgrades or process automation where feasible.
  4. Logistics & Distribution
    1. Manage raw material and finished goods inventory to minimize waste and ensure availability.
    2. Oversee warehouse operations, stock control, and logistics planning.
    3. Supervise transportation fleet operations, including route optimization and vehicle maintenance.
    4. Lead the team of drivers and logistics personnel to ensure punctual and efficient deliveries.
    5. Monitor delivery KPIs and optimize logistics cost-effectiveness.
    6. Coordinate internal product transfers and ensure timely delivery of goods to outlets.
  5. Finished Goods Management
    1. Oversee packaging, labelling, storage, and dispatch of finished goods.
    2. Ensure stock rotation and traceability practices (FIFO/FEFO) are followed consistently.
    3. Work closely with the logistics and sales teams to ensure timely delivery to retail points.
    4. Maintain inventory accuracy and minimize product wastage or spoilage.
    5. Lead the Finished Goods team to ensure smooth end-of-line operations.
  6. Operational Excellence & Strategy
    1. Lead cross-departmental projects aimed at enhancing productivity, cost control, and process efficiency.
    2. Analyze operational data, production reports, and sales trends to inform decision-making.
    3. Support strategic planning, risk management, and business continuity initiatives.
  7. Factory Infrastructure Management
    1. Manage the overall factory facility, including building maintenance, utilities, and general safety.
    2. Coordinate with external vendors for repairs, upgrades, pest control, and sanitation services.
    3. Ensure factory hygiene and infrastructure readiness for audits and inspections.
    4. Lead fire safety drills, emergency preparedness, and building safety compliance.
  8. Leadership & People Development
    1. Lead and develop a high-performing team across production, logistics, and engineering functions.
    2. Forecast labor needs, especially during peak production seasons or festive launches.
    3. Cultivate a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with workplace safety policies.
    4. Train and mentor team members to improve skillsets and maintain operational excellence.
  9. Reporting & Communication
    1. Prepare and present monthly reports on factory performance, costs, and improvement plans
    2. Collaborate closely with the Head of Business Unit and other department heads to ensure alignment of operational goals with company objectives.

Job Requirement:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Technology, Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in food manufacturing or FMCG operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Familiarity with ISO, HACCP, GMP, and other food safety standards.
  • Experience overseeing logistics, engineering, and production departments.
  • Proficiency in operational reporting, production planning tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
