On 14 September 2022, Monroe Consulting Group Malaysia collaborated with Asia School of Business Malaysia to host a seminar event, Riding The SEA Tech Wave As A Talent, for more than 40 MBA students. James Palin, Regional Sales Director, APAC at Empresaria Group and Avinash Kumar Manoharan, Managing Director at Monroe Consulting Group Malaysia, were the key speakers for this event.

Asia School of Business (ASB) is a partnership between MIT Sloan School of Management and Bank Negara Malaysia (the Central Bank of Malaysia). Through this partnership, the school offers business administration-related courses in the form of a 20-month full-time MBA program and executive education classes for students from Malaysia and around the world.

James Palin discussed the current SEA technology landscape and shared his viewpoint on growing sectors, such as Web 3.0, Blockchain, Metaverse, and many more. He also discussed the key trends within the identified sectors and how an MBA graduate would be able to navigate a career in these fields. The Metaverse market size is predicted to reach as much as $800 billion by 2024, and over 600 crypto or blockchain companies are headquartered in South-East Asia. Moreover, James shared the in-demand roles that are hot in the current tech market, such as front-end and back-end developers (mobile and app), data scientists, and engineers.

But how can you land yourself in these competitive roles? Avinash Kumar shows the students how they can position themselves as desirable talent in the market.

"From the current trends we are seeing, tech organisations expect many employees will need to understand ESG, blockchain, e-commerce, and the crypto world and apply this to their area of expertise," says Avinash. He further commented, "in 2020, approximately 83% of technology employers expressed confidence that MBA graduates' skills' would make them successful employees."

With the fast-growing technology in the market, having the most suitable candidate in the company is crucial. For job seekers, by understanding what the company needs and the market trend in the technology sector, MBA students can prepare themself to gain an advantage over their competitors. Read our latest tech talent trend report or contact our team today to understand the current high-demand role in the technology industry.
