SMT Director

Executive recruitment company Monroe Consulting Group Philippines is recruiting on behalf of a global leader in manufacturing industry. Our respected client is seeking a seasoned SMT Director with 10-15 years of solid experience that leads the overall performance of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) manufacturing in the Philippines position. The job is based in Rosario, Cavite, Philippines.

Job Summary:

The SMT Director is the leader ensures safe, high-quality, on-time, and cost-efficient printed circuit board assembly through strong operational management, continuous improvement, and strategic alignment with customer and business needs. The role requires a balance of operational discipline, technical knowledge, and strong people leadership to manage daily production, deliver long-term improvements, and build a high performing, engaged workforce.

Key job responsibilities include:

Operations Leadership:

  • Oversee daily production performance to consistently meet output, cost, and quality targets
  • Establish and manage production schedules aligned with customer requirements and demand forecasts
  • Ensure smooth material flow, equipment readiness, and line balancing to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency
  • Take proactive decisions to prevent production delays and ensure commitments are met

Quality and Compliance:

  • Enforce strict adherence to product quality standards and workmanship requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Quality function to resolve production issues, reduce defects, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with international quality systems, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead audits, customer visits, and external inspections with confidence and transparency

Continuous Improvement and Process Excellence:

  • Apply structured problem-solving and improvement methodologies to eliminate waste, improve productivity, and stabilize processes
  • Lead initiatives to reduce cost, improve yields, and shorten cycle times
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement where employees actively identify and solve problems
  • Introduce data-driven practices to monitor performance and drive decision making

Technology and Equipment:

  • Oversee the selection, qualification, and maintenance of SMT equipment and supporting tools
  • Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance programs are in place to maximize equipment uptime
  • Evaluate and adopt new technologies and automation solutions to strengthen competitiveness and productivity

New Product Introduction and Transfers:

  • Partner with Engineering to ensure new products are ready for efficient manufacturing
  • Support smooth transfer of products into production, ensuring line readiness, proper documentation, and stable performance
  • Ensure product changes are implemented in production with minimal disruption

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with Planning, Engineering, Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain teams to align plans and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Partner with Finance to track operational costs and deliver productivity improvements.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure the organization is staffed, trained, and motivated.

People Leadership and Development:

  • Build, inspire, and lead a high-performing SMT team, including supervisors, engineers, and operators.
  • Define clear goals, provide coaching, and develop future leaders through succession planning.
  • Establish a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and employee engagement.
  • Ensure all employees are properly trained, certified, and supported with opportunities for career growth.

Safety, Health, and Environment:

  • Drive a culture of zero harm and ensure all employees work in a safe and healthy environment.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and internal standards.
  • Partner with Facilities to ensure production areas meet environmental and ergonomic requirements.

Business and Financial Management:

  • Deliver annual cost, productivity, and operational performance commitments
  • Manage departmental budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and maintenance
  • Track and report performance metrics and recommend actions to meet financial and operational objectives

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Electronics, Manufacturing, or a related field
  • Master's degree in business administration or engineering is an advantage
  • At least 15 years of experience in high-technology manufacturing, with at least 10 years in senior leadership roles
  • Strong background in Surface Mount Technology operations, process engineering, and large-scale production management
  • Demonstrated track record of improving efficiency, productivity, and quality in complex manufacturing environments
  • Experience managing new product introductions and large-scale production transfers
  • Strong leadership and people development skills with the ability to motivate and engage diverse teams
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking with a structured, data-driven approach
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and technology used in SMT production
  • Strong understanding of quality management systems and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across functions, levels, and global locations.
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and the ability to align operations with financial objectives
